review Family at War Ñ eBook or Kindle ePUB Homecoming soldiers at Portsmouth with a comforting cup of tea and a ticket home Boots and Tim both made it safely back but of Bobby there was no sign and the family all feared the worstIn a farm some miles from Dunkirk however Bobby was alive but injured and trapped by the advancing Germans The farmer and his wife offered him refuge but Helene the farmer's independent minded daughter. I didn t enjoy this as much as Nurse Anna s War I haven t read any other books in this series perhaps that s why I was put off by the introduction of so many characters in the initial pages which was difficult to follow The family trees at the beginning of the book helped somewhat but the only part that held my interest was Bobby s experience of missing the Dunkirk evacuation and subseuent stay with a French family and escape back to England The Couette and the Boarding School refuge but Helene the farmer's independent minded daughter. review Family at War Ñ eBook or Kindle ePUB It was 1940 and many of the younger members of the Adams family were caught up in the war in France Boots now a Major and on the staff of General Sir Henry Simms was one of the thousands of British troops trying to escape in the armada of little boats from Dunkirk His son Tim and nephew Bobby were also struggling to reach the coast and safety while Eloise was with the ATS awaiting the. uite enjoyed this book Part of a series of books written by Mary Jane Staples about 2 families the Adams and the Browns and each book tells of series of events in each family throughout their lives This book tells of the men and women from both families and their roles as military personnel in World War 2 both in England and in Europe From the desperate attempts to get home after the Dunkirk evacuation had ended and the subseuent closing in of the German military to slam shut the port of Dunkirk there were still soldiers left behind who d missed the boats One was Sergeant Bobby Adams who was taken in by a local farmer and sheltered from the German war machineThe farmer and his wife had a daughter Helene who was totally opposed to Bobby being there in their home putting them all at risk and she made no bones about how she felt Bobby however was only interested in trying to get back home to Blighty and was prepared to do anything it took to get home Eventually there was a plan worked out for his escape and as plans do they fall apart at the slightest turn of minutes so he set off accompanied by Helene towards Dunkirk This was a dramatic story of events which not only told Bobby s story but the story of other family members involved in the different areas of the war effort in Britain and although the events in the entire book only took place within about a month from go to whoa Mary Jane Staples has woven a believable yarn about events that could have actually happened to people in WW2 Very well written and an enjoyable read I have since located another one of MJS s books about the Adams family and can t wait to get started into reading that one too
