I believe the author s story but like with St John Hunt s memoir about his father I had my problems with the writing This book could have definitely used some greater editing It didn t disrupt the narrative but there were some really obvious spelling errors punctuation mistakes and some sentences that were very convoluted There were also some really terrible sentences not in the sense of being poorly written but in the sense that they re horrendous things to say There was one sentence that mentioned millions of Cubans praying for someone to assassinate Castro Besides being so poor an understanding of Cuba that it s practically a clich it is a reproduction of the incredibly destructive arrogance of the American Empire Which on that note while I imagine that it s traumatic to lose a father as a kid I really had little sympathy for Ed Kaiser He seemed to be one sociopathic foot soldier working the levers of empire
